About
Nick Hanekom is a formally trained photographer with a wealth of experience creating vibrant and stylized imagery. After graduating from a South African advertising school Nick worked as an assistant to a slew of internationally recognized commercial photographers and directors.
After a four-year courtship with the South African music industry Nick returned to his first love: photography, and begun freelancing for a number of SA’s leading independent voices in the youth culture market. Successfully fusing his photography and writing skills he has been fortunate enough to witness and document the global rise of independent arts and culture, and he’s been expanding both portfolios ever since.
Nowadays though, he spends more time with a camera in-hand as he senses a stronger connection to photograph as a passion and an art form.
With an eye on old-school values and aesthetics, Nick creates scenarios that transcend time or place; his creative vision, and inspiration, are rooted in a bygone era yet he employs cutting-edge digital technology and professional software applications to aid photographic process. Not one to be pigeon-holed, Nick aims to capture images of contemporary fashion and lifestyle subjects in a classically-inspired and timeless manner.
Nick specializes in pushing the boundaries of innovation in pinup/glamour, fashion, editorial and lifestyle portraiture… Although always a South African at heart, Nick lives in Toronto, Canada with his beautiful wife and two dogs whom he photo-blogs relentlessly.
